I was fortunate enough to grow up with computers from the earliest of ages. Over three decades, I have been using them to learn, program, and produce. Thus, when I first discovered how architecture and urban design use technology, it was a familiar language to me.

The computer is the most remarkable tool we’ve ever come up with. It’s the equivalent of a bicycle for our minds. Steve Jobs

Technology has a tremendous role to play in the communication, design, and construction of architecture and our urban environments. My goal at Nash Partnership was to advance the practice in the use of technology; removing barriers, increasing production and quality, and expanding the range of services the practice can offer. Through the efforts of both myself and others at the practice, the technological backing of the practice is unrecognisable compared to when I joined four years ago.

I’ve been thrilled at the comments my work has received. My work has ranged from modelling entire cities, bringing in software to manage the practice’s information & document management, automating production. You can read more about my work in photogrammetry here

What points do I want to mention:

I know all the standards. I know how to communicate technology to people.

My work on photogrammetry. Link to that category.

Bringing Newforma, Xrev, Kinship into Nash Partnership.

GIS mapping and mapping of entire towns.

Automating the entire production of drawings for Hope House. Compressing the work of hours into a few minutes. Also steelwork.

Visual production standards. Visual production as a design tool. Sections and site knowledge as a design tool. Site analysis.

Technology as a tool for design, site analysis, and communication.

Technology as a means to organise, store information.
